Spencer Spit State Park (Lopez Island) to West Beach Resort (Orcas Island):
Today we cycled a short 4 miles to the ferry dock at Lopez Island, ate a delicious burger and deep fried, sugar coated, dough bits, took the ferry to Orcas Island, and then biked the 10, hilly miles to West Beach Resort just outside of Eastsound. The day was hot, but beautiful and we are spending the evening relaxing on the waterfront deck with a cold beverage!
Deception Pass State Park to Spencer Spit State Park on Lopez Island:
Today was a beautiful, and while fairly short overall, exhausting day! We finally made it to the San Juan Islands and decided to start our time here on the “bicycle island”. Our campsite is amazing, our dinner at the “Love Dog Cafe” was amazing, the weather is amazing and everything around us is simply beautiful!
Pt. Townsend–>Coupville–>Deception Pass State Park
Today was a beautiful day biking on Whidbey Island! Big wide shoulders on the roads and views of The Sound everywhere!
Today was a rest day in Port Townsend!
Today was a 9 mile ride to Ft. Warden State Park and then a wonderful rest day!
Today we traded in bike paths and trains for ferries, highways and back roads. We rode from Kingston, WA to Port Townsend, WA for a total of 32 miles. Overall, it was a wonderful day although a bit challenging. The terrain was hilly and the shoulder often disappeared into the moss. In the end, we ended up at Ft. Townsend State park in a beautiful hiker/biker campsite all to ourselves!
Well, it has been quite a while since I have posted anything, mostly due to finishing grad school and moving to a new home (again!). But today, my husband and I are beginning a month long bike tour of Western Washington, the San Juan Islands, Vancouver Island and the Canadian Gulf Islands! Over the next month I plan to post photos and stories of our adventure, but it will be a bit different than most of my past posts. I will only have my iPhone with me, so my photo quality won’t be the same as usual and I probably won’t write long, complicated posts due to not bringing a keyboard.
Today was day 1 and included a 19 mile ride on the Western-Chehalis trail from Yelm, WA to the Olympia-Lacy Amtrak station and then a 3 hour train ride to Edmonds where we stayed in a hotel for the night. Tomorrow we will be riding from the ferry dock in Kingston, WA up to Pt. Townsend, WA.
Check back for photos, stories and thoughts on touring by bike over the next month!
